Born with a rare brain malformation, Corwyn’s life was medically complex—he couldn’t walk, talk, or eat, and required intensive, around-the-clock care. Megan often described their home as feeling more like a pediatric ICU. Through the years of caring for Corwyn, Megan experienced the deep isolation many families face when caring for a medically fragile child at home. While hospitals often receive support from charitable groups, the families doing the hardest work—at home—are frequently left on their own. After Corwyn passed away at home in 2016, Megan turned her grief into action. That’s when Rays for Rare was born. Her vision was simple but powerful: to bring uplifting, non-diagnosis-specific support to families of medically fragile children. From hands-on services at home to meaningful community events, Rays for Rare is about meeting families where they are—physically and emotionally. Megan is a passionate advocate for the medically fragile community, which includes over 8,000 rare diseases. She believes the diagnosis may differ, but the caregiving journey is remarkably similar—and often overlooked in our curative-focused culture. She’s committed to raising awareness around pediatric palliative and hospice care, and creating better systems for families navigating these challenges.
